December 2009
Dear Friends,
The New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition, founded in 1992, is proud to serve as New Hampshire's only all volunteer, statewide breast cancer advocacy organization. This year's annual appeal is brief because we know you already understand the challenges we face in fighting breast cancer.
With your support,
NHBCC
can push forward and
move closer to achieving our mission
to end breast cancer.
During the past twelve months, the New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition continued playing an active role in fighting breast cancer. In 2009, NHBCC:
- stood alongside the National Breast Cancer Coalition calling for access to quality health care for all, for adequate federal funding for breast cancer research, and for including trained breast cancer advocates where decisions about breast cancer are made: federal and local advisory panels, scientific peer-review committees, local hospitals, and in the halls of Congress.
- provided financial assistance to eleven low-income and uninsured women being treated for breast cancer in New Hampshire, thanks to several generous gifts for our Support Services Fund.
- began converting the statewide New Hampshire Breast Cancer Resource Guide from a print version to an on-line searchable data base, to give women information "at their fingertips" when they need it.
- was recognized by the media as a reliable source on key breast cancer issues, and was recently quoted in the Concord Monitor and the Keene Sentinel on the new mammography screening guidelines issued by the United States Preventive Services Task Force - and the controversy about mammography screening that ensued.
Fighting breast cancer is complicated - just like the disease itself. Whether you are a long-time supporter of NHBCC, or are new to our organization, please respond to this request for help. Be as generous as possible - with your time, your energy, and/or your dollars. NHBCC depends on you to help us end breast cancer - once and for all.
Sincerely,
Nancy A. Ryan, Chair
New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition
