| Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act of 2000 (HR 4386) |
 |
The "Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000" (HR 4386) guarantees treatment coverage for low-income, uninsured women who are screened and diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Early Detection Program.
Prior to the new law, uninsured poor women could receive screening for breast and cervical cancer.
However, if they were diagnosed with a disease, federal health care programs did not automatically pay for treatment.
The new law creates a State Medicaid option to allow reimbursement of between 65 and 68 percent of the Medicaid costs for the cancer treatment to low-income, uninsured women to be enrolled in the program. |
