A Unique Winter-Only Fundraising Idea

The famous Alton Bay Ice Runway on Lake Winnipesaukee may be closed now for the season, but numerous pilots who landed their planes on the ice this winter gave NHBCC’s Support Services Fund a sizeable financial boost!

Nashua resident and amateur photographer John Parolin is a devoted friend to NHBCC, and a favorite winter location to photograph small planes in action is on the Alton Bay Ice Runway.  He is well known to both the staff and pilots, and often receives requests from plane owners to buy a photo. In lieu of payment, John suggests making a donation to NHBCC to support its work helping struggling breast cancer patients.  NHBCC is extremely grateful that eleven pilots took him up on the suggestion this winter with generous donations!  Some donors share with him that a personal connection to breast cancer in a family member or friend is their motivation to donate.

This year, by the way, was a record-breaker for the Ice Runway, with over 1000 landings between January and March.  It has the distinction of being the only ice runway in the lower 48 states.  The first ever international flight also landed there this year; the red plane pictured was piloted by a Canadian who had to clear customs in Burlington, VT first!

Many thanks again to John, for being a proud supporter of NHBCC with this exciting fundraising idea, and to the pilots who took this opportunity to contribute to our cause.
