A big shout out and a huge THANK YOU to Megan Devers and Tyler Durand, two outstanding Belmont, NH, high school seniors, who raised $4,120.00 to benefit the New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition Support Services Fund (SSF). Their year-long, sports-themed fundraising projects to benefit the SSF earned them each a special diploma of distinction from Belmont High School. They also shared the same motivation of honoring their mothers, both of whom have battled breast cancer.
In Tyler’s letter of intent for his project, he wrote, “Having seen what breast cancer can do to a family first-hand, I knew that I wanted to help others as much as I could.” For his project, Tyler organized and managed a 5K race. He had run many 5k’s in the past with his mother and felt that a 5K would be a special way to honor her.
In deciding on her project to benefit others fighting breast cancer, Megan, a basketball player herself, sponsored a basketball game. She wrote, “Along with raising awareness, my ultimate goal is sending all money raised to a foundation or charity that works with those affected by breast cancer.”
NHBCC is extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity for Board members to meet these two talented students in person and commemorate their generous donation with a few photos. These photos were also included in the school presentations which were the culmination of their completed projects. Both students and the Belmont High School Principal received letters expressing our thanks and offering our sincere congratulations for their hard work and commitment in earning diplomas of distinction and their desire to help needy NH women struggling with a breast cancer diagnosis.
